{"id":25395,"date":"2021-04-05T17:07:49","date_gmt":"2021-04-05T17:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=25395"},"modified":"2021-04-05T17:07:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T17:07:49","slug":"kenya-railways-resumes-nairobi-bus-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/community\/kenya-railways-resumes-nairobi-bus-services","title":{"rendered":"Kenya Railways Resumes Nairobi Bus Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> Kenya Railways on Monday, April 5, announced the resumption of the Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) bus service\u00a0in Westlands, Upperhill and Yaya Centre within Nairobi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;KRC is glad to inform you the resumption of the following services effective Tuesday, morning April 6,&#8221; part of the statement by KR read.<\/p>\n<p>The service was recently\u00a0unveiled to transport Nairobians\u00a0from the Nairobi Central Railway Station to the Westlands Bus Terminus and others to ABC Place.<\/p>\n<article data-align=\"center\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kenyans.co.ke\/files\/styles\/article_inner_mobile\/public\/images\/media\/nairobi%20commuter.JPG?itok=h773y-HM\" alt=\"Nairobi Commuter Bus in November 2020.\" width=\"470\" height=\"341\" \/><\/div>\n<div>Nairobi Commuter Bus in November 2020.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>Other services which resumed included the NCR train service along\u00a0Ruiru, Embakasi village, Kikuyu, Syokimau and Athi River,<\/p>\n<p>The Nairobi Central Station (NCS) Rail heading to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Service and\u00a0ME Commuter Phase II A service to Rongai and Ngong have also resumed.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0launch of the buses by the corporation was unveiled\u00a0to provide easier and affordable rates for Nairobians moving to and from the city.<\/p>\n<p>The NCR buses would be dropping passengers at Jeevanjee, Museum Hill, CFC Stanbic, Chiromo, Westlands Bus Terminus, Brookside, Safaricom, ABSA, ABC Place and James Gichuru. The fare rate stands at Ksh30.<\/p>\n<p>Further, the corporation also unveiled\u00a0services from Nairobi Central Railway Station to JKIA via the Embakasi Train.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0comes\u00a0after\u00a0Kenya Railways announced that it would\u00a0have an\u00a0additional six commuter trains\u00a0plying different routes across the city.<\/p>\n<p>The additional commuter trains referred to as Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) would\u00a0increase the frequency of trains in Nairobi and enhance transportation by reducing traffic congestion along busy roads.<\/p>\n<p>The NCR bus service mirrors the National Youth Service (NYS) commuter service which offered affordable rates to Kenyans at\u00a0Ksh20 fare\u00a0to and from Nairobi CBD.<\/p>\n<p>However, the NYS service recently got suspended due to losses accruing from the maintenance costs\u00a0of the 27 buses which had been launched under the\u00a0<em>Okoa Abiria<\/em>\u00a0Programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AfricaPress-Kenya: Kenya Railways on Monday, April 5, announced the resumption of the Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) bus service\u00a0in Westlands, Upperhill and Yaya Centre within Nairobi. &#8220;KRC is glad to inform you the resumption of the following services effective Tuesday, morning April 6,&#8221; part of the statement by KR read.
