AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> 1,698 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 11,352\u00a0tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 14.9\u00a0percent.<\/p>\n

The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 143,063,\u00a0while the cumulative tests conducted so far are 1,542, 088.<\/p>\n

Of the cases announced today, 1,591\u00a0are Kenyans while 107 are foreigners, while 926 are male and 772 are female. The youngest is a 17 day old infant while the oldest is 100- years-old.<\/p>\n

Regrettably,16 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. One occurred in the last 24 hours, one within the last one month while 14 are late death reports from facility record audits that\u00a0occurred on diverse dates. This pushes our cumulative fatalities to 2,292.<\/p>\n

At the same time, 456\u00a0patients have recovered from the disease, 267\u00a0from the Home-Based and Isolation Care, while 189 are from various health facilities.<\/p>\n

The total number of recoveries now stands at 97,650.<\/p>\n

Currently, a\u00a0total of 1,620 patients are\u00a0admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,247 patients are on Home Based\u00a0Isolation and Care.<\/p>\n

235 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 48 of whom are on ventilatory support and 155 on supplemental oxygen. 32 patients are on observation.<\/p>\n

Another 261 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 248 of them in the general wards and 13\u00a0in the High Dependency Unit ( HDU ).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0Narok County Roads and Public Works CEC John Marindany,\u00a0has succumbed to Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Marindany died on Wednesday, April 7, at a Nairobi hospital while receiving treatment. He had been taken ill on Monday at his home in Chelchel village.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday, at around 1500hrs, he developed breathing problems while undergoing treatment at the hospital and was pronounced dead shortly,\u201d a report by Angata Barrikoi Chief Joseph Kirui read.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Kenyatta National Hospital\u00a0announced that it is scaling down on surgical procedures that are elective in nature on Wednesday April 7.<\/p>\n

In a notice, the hospital said it is experiencing an increase in oxygen consumption due to the Covid-19 pandemic and that over the last year, the average consumption of oxygen had doubled.<\/p>\n

However, the government\u00a0on Thursday, April 8, unveiled an Oxygen Task Force in a bid to formulate plans and strategies to mitigate the\u00a0ongoing oxygen shortage crisis in the country.<\/p>\n

According to the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the lack of oxygen had deteriorated adding that it was time for the government to generate\u00a0a plan to deal with it.<\/p>\n
