Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The government has announced a 6 p.m. curfew in Baragoi Town and the entire Samburu North Constituency in Samburu County.<\/p>\n

The measures were outlined by Rift Valley Regional Commander George Natembeya on Tuesday, April 13.<\/p>\n

The move is aimed at paving way for security operations aimed at disarming and flashing out bandits who carry out cattle rustling in the area.<\/p>\n

The security will be carried out by a multi-agency team of the General Service Unit, Anti-Stock Theft Unit and Directorate of Criminal Investigations.<\/p>\n

Other entities include National Intelligence Service, Rapid Deployment Unit and National Government Administrative Officers.<\/p>\n

The town is among conflicted constituencies that are on the radar of the police force over continued fighting.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, April 6, Natembeya announced the restoration of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew in Baringo North and added Turkana East and Laikipia to the list.<\/p>\n

He explained that the regions were placed under tight security due to a spike in insecurity practices in the region that led to deaths and loss of property.<\/p>\n

“We have decided that even though the 30 days allowance was to end on April 23, we do not have time to wait. We have decided to restore the security operation which shall begin tomorrow. The operation this time will be more lethal.<\/p>\n

“We shall not just target Baringo but also Turkana East and Laikipia. You already know that thugs still cattle and hide them at Laikipia nature conservancy. Some residents of Turkana East have also been firing guns rampantly,” he directed at the time.<\/p>\n

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had instituted the curfew after a Chief Inspector in charge of the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Kapedo and his driver were on Thursday evening, January 22, shot dead at Ameyan bridge in Tiaty constituency.<\/p>\n
