{"id":25816,"date":"2021-04-13T16:47:56","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T16:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=25816"},"modified":"2021-04-13T15:52:07","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T15:52:07","slug":"moses-kuria-sentenced-after-pleading-guilty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/moses-kuria-sentenced-after-pleading-guilty","title":{"rendered":"Moses Kuria Sentenced After Pleading Guilty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>UPDATE: April 13, 2021: Gatundu MP Moses Kuria pleaded guilty to charges of flouting Covid-19 restrictions when he was arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts.<\/p>\n<p>The MP was slapped with a Ksh 75,000 fine or serves 8 months in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Kuria, alongside his 10 co-accused were found in violation of the ban on gatherings, not observing social distancing, failure to wear masks and being out during the curfew period.<\/p>\n<p>Gatundu MP Moses Kuria has been arrested in a night raid conducted on the evening of Monday, April 12, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In a short post on his official Facebook page, Kuria stated that he was being held at Karuri Police Station in Kiambu.<\/p>\n<p>Sources say that the MP was arrested for flouting the Covid-19 rules by holding a meeting inside one of the hotels along the Northern Bypass.<\/p>\n<p>Photos shared by Moses Kuria showed him at the OB desk at Karuri Police Station alongside some of his supporters.<\/p>\n<p>News reaching the Kenyans.co.ke news desk indicate that meeting was held to discuss the upcoming Juja by-election in which the MP has fronted a candidate on his People Empowerment Party.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, the police had arrested a woman said to be the wife of George Koimburi who Kuria is supporting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cowards have arrested the wife to Hon George Koimburi, PEP Candidate for Juja. She will be arraigned in a Thika court tomorrow. But verily, verily I say unto you. Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come. Tukutane Thika asubuhi,&#8221; the MP said.<\/p>\n<p>Campaigns for the May 18 Juja by-election are already heating up with Koimburi preparing to face Susan Waititu the widow of the late Francis MP.<\/p>\n<p>Koimburi had recently claimed to have received threats from anonymous callers and asked the police to accord him security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I\u2019m requesting is the government to provide me with security because I believe my life is in danger. Some strange people have been following me since I defected on Sunday,\u201d Koimburi during a press conference on March 16.<\/p>\n<p>He defected from the Jubilee Party to join Moses Kuria&#8217;s PEP party, where he claimed he had a better chance to replace the late Francis Waititu, popularly known as Wakapee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
