{"id":25981,"date":"2021-04-16T15:32:47","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T15:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=25981"},"modified":"2021-04-16T15:20:57","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T15:20:57","slug":"section-of-thika-road-to-be-closed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/section-of-thika-road-to-be-closed","title":{"rendered":"Section of Thika Road to be Closed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Friday, April 16 announced that a service lane along Thika Road will be temporarily closed.<\/p>\n<p>The service lane which is located at Ruiru Toll Station next to St Teresa of Avila Catholic will be closed between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 18.<\/p>\n<p>The service lane will be closed for service works and the authority has urged Kenyans to practice caution while using the road on the date of closure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeNHA urges all motorists to exercise caution and patience while driving through road section on the aforementioned date of closure,\u201d the authority said.<\/p>\n<p>KeNHA however does not anticipate any traffic flow issues at the section since the necessary measures will be put in place to avoid traffic snarl-up.<\/p>\n<p>Service lanes run parallel to the main road, they allow local traffic to divert to certain locations.<\/p>\n<p>Service lanes are also very important, especially where major roads are bordered by commercial and residential areas since they allow vehicles to access those areas without distracting the normal flow of traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Sections of Thika Road have in recent months been closed for rehabilitation purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Construction works that usually takes place include replacement of road signs, expansion of the road, recarpeting of worn-out sections of the road and the erection of footbridges.<\/p>\n<p>Motorists, in August 2020, raised concerns after rehabilitation works were completed at the outering road- Thika superhighway overpass at GSU.<\/p>\n<p>They raised concerns that the contactors had left loose chippings which damaged their windscreens and at times caused accidents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe surface dressing involves road workers to spray the existing road surface with a coating of bitumen, then spread stone chippings on top. Motorists are advised to drive at the speed indicated near areas with loose chippings,\u201d KURA in an earlier statement said.<\/p>\n<p>KURA also added that loose chippings reserve roads for several more years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
