{"id":26290,"date":"2021-04-20T19:45:24","date_gmt":"2021-04-20T19:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=26290"},"modified":"2021-04-20T19:45:24","modified_gmt":"2021-04-20T19:45:24","slug":"sports-cs-amina-over-4000-athletes-vaccinated-ahead-of-tokyo-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/sport\/sports-cs-amina-over-4000-athletes-vaccinated-ahead-of-tokyo-games","title":{"rendered":"Sports CS Amina: Over 4000 athletes vaccinated ahead of Tokyo games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"card-text\"><strong>AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> so far over 4,000 sports men and women have received the Covid-19 jab since the vaccination program for Kenyan athletes began, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, culture and heritage Amina Mohamed said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The vaccinations started at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, two weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta suspended all sporting activities in the country as part of efforts to control the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the mass vaccination exercise for the first dose comes to an end today,\u00a0 I am pleased to report that we have so far vaccinated 4,255 of the target population who reside in Nairobi county,\u201d CS Amina said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row justify-content-center mb-2 mx-0\">\n<div class=\"text-center ad-max\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cFurther, another 200 based in other Counties outside Nairobi City have also been vaccinated. We plan to continue with the vaccination exercise in consultation with the Ministry of\u00a0 Health to cover any athlete or athlete handler set for national assignments who may have been left out due to factors beyond their control.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ministry of Sports, priority had been given to teams participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, all personnel working on the WRC\/FIA Safari Rally Kenya, World Athletics under 20 Championships, World Athletics Continental Tour and the Rugby Barthes Cup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn 8th April, we rolled out an extensive vaccination exercise targeting all our national Teams with specific priority to Teams participating in the\u00a0 Tokyo 2020\u00a0 Olympic and Paralympic Games, \u201c added the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll personnel working on the WRC\/ FIA\u00a0 Safari Rally Kenya,\u00a0 World Athletics Under\u00a0 20 Championships, World Athletics Continental Tour, the Rugby Barthes\u00a0 Cup,\u00a0 all Sports SAGAS,\u00a0 specifically Sports\u00a0 Kenya, the Kenya\u00a0 Academy of\u00a0 Sports, AntiDoping Agency of Kenya, Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund and all Ministry of Sports frontline staffers.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div class=\"art-img\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-fluid w-100\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.standardmedia.co.ke\/images\/monday\/fgxs8ihi6ifs6iz7tc607dd8b34e6b9.jpg\" \/><\/div><figcaption class=\"bg-light mb-3 p-3\"><strong>Coach Wheelchair athletics Eunice Otieno is being vaccinated Enid Kanywa (left) after the launch by CS Sports Amina Mohamed (right) at the start of Intensive National Vaccination Exercise of Kenyan athletes at Kasarani Stadium\u00a0<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI wish to sincerely thank my colleagues Hon.
