Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Education CS George Magoha has announced that 27 KCSE exam officers have been fired following their involvement in irregularities in the national exams.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, April 21, the CS stated that the officers revealed examination papers before they had been scheduled to take place.<\/p>\n

\u201d We experienced a number of cases where examination officials attempted to open the papers with the intention of exposing them to candidates before the actual examinations started. We thwarted these efforts in a few centres countrywide, some of which I released to you during my weekly briefs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the CS also announced that 35 civilians including university students had been arrested and 53 cell phones confiscated during the KCSE period.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we speak, security agencies are busy conducting thorough forensic investigations to find out if the gadgets were used to aid any form of cheating,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Magoha was speaking at Nairobi School where he had gone to monitor the exam on the last day of the KCSE examinations.<\/p>\n

The CS announced that marking of the papers would commence today and results expected will be released by May 10, 2021.<\/p>\n

He congratulated the 752,891 students who sat for the exams despite challenges witnessed in the wake of the pandemic.<\/p>\n

In a previous briefing, Magoha noted that students who were involved in examination malpractices will be forgiven and will still get their results.<\/p>\n

“Those who used mobile devices would also receive the results but have some of the marks deducted,” Magoha stated in a previous briefing.<\/p>\n

He stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta had instructed that authorities should be lenient to the candidates due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic that disrupted the school calendar.<\/p>\n
