Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has sacked 52 teachers after they were found guilty of various malpractices and misconduct.<\/p>\n

According to TSC, the said teachers underwent a robust disciplinary process carried out by the commission between July 2019 and December 2020.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that the majority were male teachers who were found guilty of sexual offenses mainly carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic period.<\/p>\n

Media reports revealed that 151,433 teenage pregnancy cases were reported between January and May 2020.<\/p>\n

Some of those fired had engaged in criminal activities while others suffered from mental illnesses. According to the commission, the sacked teachers cannot be hired by any school management board and would only resume teaching activities if rehired by the commission.<\/p>\n

At the same time, TSC also registered 91 teachers who recently graduated from teacher training colleges and universities.<\/p>\n

The newly registered teachers can apply for jobs registered by the commission. They are also allowed to teach at primary schools or hired by a school board of management.<\/p>\n

The news comes as Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha recently announced that 27 KCSE exam officers had been fired following their involvement in irregularities in the national exams.<\/p>\n

He also pointed out 35 civilians including university students were arrested and 53 cell phones confiscated during the KCSE period.<\/p>\n

“We experienced a number of cases where examination officials attempted to open the papers with the intention of exposing them to candidates before the actual examinations started.<\/p>\n

“We thwarted these efforts in a few centers countrywide, some of which I released to you during my weekly briefs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Magoha also maintained that schools in Kenya will resume learning activities on Monday, May 10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
