Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Detectives in Ruiru, Kiambu county apprehended three foreigners with over Ksh 35 billion ($350 million) in fake US currency.<\/p>\n

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation sleuths, on Tuesday, May 4, said that they tracked the three Cameroonians to a house still under construction where they seized the currency.<\/p>\n

They also recovered one Glock pistol and 28 rounds of 9mm calibre.<\/p>\n

“Two suspects were found to be in the country illegally while the third suspect holds a refugee identity card.<\/p>\n

“In an operation conducted last evening, the detectives also recovered over 250 kilograms of fake gold nuggets and gold bars,” DCI stated.<\/p>\n

Detectives later raided the main suspect’s Muthaiga home where they recovered one Glock pistol and 28 rounds of 9mm calibre pistol.<\/p>\n

Detailed investigations revealed that the firearm belonged to a fourth suspect, who was holding it illegally since her firearms license had expired.<\/p>\n

“She (the fourth suspect) operates over 10 mobile money outlets and detectives believe that she is the link between the suspects and a wider criminal syndicate that is defrauding unsuspecting members of the public,” detectives added.<\/p>\n

The arrests come barely a week after police arrested two individuals in a Kilimani apartment, and recovered fake notes worth Ksh 750 million. The notes were in Kenyan, US and Euro denominations.<\/p>\n

Police said that the fake currencies amounted to $6.2 million, 490,000 Euros and Ksh6.4 million.<\/p>\n

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on August 14, 2020, warned that cybercrime and money laundering was on the rise in Kenya.<\/p>\n
