href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Battle lines were drawn in the National Assembly on Thursday, May 6, when MPs voted on the Constitution Amendment Bill 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Voting started a few minutes to 6pm and encompassed members who were present in the chambers and those who participated via Zoom.<\/p>\n<p>South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro risked his vote being cancelled after appearing for the session with a multitude of constituents on the video teleconference.<\/p>\n<p>He was forced to step away from the gathering and request the speaker for another chance to cast his vote.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinating the voting of the over 50 MPs who were appearing on Zoom proved to be a hard task for Speaker Justin Muturi.<\/p>\n<p>Lag, echoing, and feedback made it difficult to hear some of the members as others were heard engaging in private conversations after forgetting to mute their microphones.<\/p>\n<p>As had been expected, allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga dominated the yes side.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy President William Ruto\u2019s allies such as Soy MP Caleb Kositany led the no team.<\/p>\n<p>In a rather surprising turn of events, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri a sharp critic of President Kenyatta and a Ruto ally voted in support of the Bill.<\/p>\n<p>After MPs voted to pass the Constitution Amendment Bill 2020,
