{"id":27420,"date":"2021-05-09T17:37:36","date_gmt":"2021-05-09T17:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=27420"},"modified":"2021-05-09T15:50:47","modified_gmt":"2021-05-09T15:50:47","slug":"matiangi-summoned-to-explain-whereabouts-of-missing-billionaire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/matiangi-summoned-to-explain-whereabouts-of-missing-billionaire","title":{"rendered":"Matiang&#8217;i Summoned to Explain Whereabouts of Missing Billionaire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Interior CS Fred Matiang&#8217;i, DCI Boss George Kinoti and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai have been summoned to appear before a Kiambu court on Monday, May 10.<\/p>\n<p>The trio were asked to appear in court to explain the disappearance of a Turkish billionaire, Selahaddin Gulen, who is a nephew to an Opposition leader in Turkey Fethullah Gulen.<\/p>\n<p>Kiambu High Court judge Mary Kasango made the directive following an application by Rachier &amp; Amollo Advocates to have the three summoned.<\/p>\n<p>Selahhadin has been missing since May 3, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He was allegedly on his way to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu road where he wanted Interpol to clear his name over allegations of involvement in crime back in his native Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr Selahhadin was with someone else at the time he was abducted. However, the other individual was freed yesterday,\u201d Selahaddin&#8217;s lawyer Jothan Arua said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the businessman had sued the Kenyan government. He was seeking orders to stop his arrest, deportation or extradition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real motive behind the issuance of the Red notice is that, in 2016 (when I lived in the US) there was a failed coup attempt in Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is suspected that one Fethulla Gulen (my uncle) may have supported the coup,\u201d he said in court papers.<\/p>\n<p>The coup left at least 240 people dead and more than 2,000 others injured. Civil servants and military officials, have been jailed for life over the crime.<\/p>\n<p>The Gulen family are billionaires who run education institutions including the Light Academy schools in Kenya. The schools are six in total.<\/p>\n<p>Four are located in Nairobi while two are in Mombasa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
