Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>2020 KCSE top candidate Robinson Simiyu Wanjala has spoken after he emerged top in the just released exams.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citizen TV, Wanjala noted that he was not expecting to be the top candidate countrywide but disclosed that he expected to do well judging by the hard work he had put into the test.<\/p>\n

The former student at Murang’a High School scored 87.334 points and topped the entire class of 2020 which had 747,171.<\/p>\n

He further noted that he looks forward to studying Medicine at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and aspired to become a surgeon before later specialising in cancer treatment and management.<\/p>\n

“Yeah, I received the news on TV. I was very nervous. Actually, I was just lost for words. I was very surprised. I was at home in the sitting room with all the family. We were about to have lunch, with tension I could not.<\/p>\n

“By the time I was in form 4, I targeted to be the best but I was not expecting to be number one. I would like to take a course in medicine at UoN. I had applied for medicine and Engineering,” he stated.<\/p>\n

He added that after the Covid-19 pandemic struck the country, he experienced difficulties accessing academic materials online but he kept the faith.<\/p>\n

“The experience through the first year was tough but I thank the school. There are quite many issues in there when accessing education especially online.<\/p>\n

“My advice to everyone is to stick to their dream. Let no one tell them it is impossible. Continue working and pray to God,” he added.<\/p>\n

Wanjala’s father disclosed that his son was always focused and the good performance so somewhat expected.<\/p>\n

“Robin has been a very focused boy fresh from Primary. He came from Gachie Primary all the way to Murang’a High School. Robin was so focused on what he wanted to achieve,” explained the father.<\/p>\n

Simiyu led the cohort followed by Wasonga Allan Udoma and Sharon Chepng’eno who tied with 87.173 points.<\/p>\n

CS Magoha noted that all 747,171 students would be enrolled to higher education, tertiary institutions through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).<\/p>\n
