Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers – on Saturday, May 15, arrested a policeman over the death of a Nairobi matatu tout.<\/p>\n

Homicide detectives stated that the police officer – based at Dabel Police Station in Moyale – was being treated as the main suspect in the murder of Joshua Mungai.<\/p>\n

DCI sleuths placed Police Constable Edwin Oscar Okimaru at the scene of the crime after conducting forensics and investigations for nearly one month.<\/p>\n

On April 18, at around 10 pm, the tout alongside two other friends was apprehended for reportedly violating curfew orders. The three were allegedly assaulted before being bundled into the trunk of a private car.<\/p>\n

Investigations revealed that the victims were driven to Tuala bridge area and dumped. One of the trio whose hands had been tied with a rope, however, freed himself and rescued his friends.<\/p>\n

“He called a boda boda rider who was passing by and they helped Mungai and the other friend onto the bike which rode them away.<\/p>\n

“However, they couldn\u2019t assist the deceased to a hospital, for fear of coming across the officer and his ally who had assaulted them,” DCI narrated.<\/p>\n

The trio parted ways at Nazarene University that night. The following morning, a good samaritan rushed the tout to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was pronounced dead a few days later.<\/p>\n

He had incurred critical injuries in his chest due to being hit by a blunt object. He also suffered broken ribs and bones.<\/p>\n

“Earlier, the family of the late victim had in a heart-rending appeal requested the DCI to take over the matter from Ongata Rongai Police Station, where the case had been reported.<\/p>\n

“In our findings that involved investigative interviewing of eyewitnesses, forensic autopsy analysis by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor and combing of the scene, the detectives indeed concluded that the suspect (the police officer) was at the scene of the murder, in the fateful night,” DCI announced.<\/p>\n

The agency added that they were pursuing other leads and would arrest more suspects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
