Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Djibouti, the capital city of the Republic of Djibouti, to attend the inauguration of President Ismail Omar Guelleh.<\/p>\n

The trip comes days after he was in among the 11 African Heads of State who graced Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni\u2019s swearing-in ceremony in Kampala on Wednesday, May 12.<\/p>\n

Uhuru flew to Djibouti as the current Chairperson of the East African Community.<\/p>\n

Other leaders in attendance are the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Somalia Prime Minister Hussein Roble, Guinea\u2019s President Alpha Conde and representatives from Sudan\u2019s transitional government.<\/p>\n

President Guelleh is set to commence his fifth term in power, after collecting the highest vote percentage since he came to power in 1999. President Kenyatta was accompanied by Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo.<\/p>\n

Back in Kenya, the president is yet to speak on the BBI ruling after a court declared it null and void.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, May 13, a five-judge bench ruled that the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020 is unconstitutional due to a number of illegalities within the bill and the entire process that came up with the bill.<\/p>\n

The ruling was made by Justice Teresia Matheka, Joel Ngugi, George Odunga, Jairus Ngaah, and Chacha Mwita.<\/p>\n

After the shock ruling, BBI Secretariat chairman Junet Mohammed and the team vowed to appeal stating that they would continue to promote the constitutional amendments bill until it was ratified by Kenyans.<\/p>\n

“As law-abiding leaders, we respect the decision of the courts but we don’t agree with it.<\/p>\n

“We are setting up a legal team to look into and appeal the ruling. In the meantime, we assure all Kenyans who believe in the BBI and it’s promise not to give up. It’s not over yet,” Junet stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
