Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The whereabouts of National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi were a topic of discussion during a session in parliament on Wednesday, May 19.<\/p>\n

This was after he failed to show up for a special session where the MPs were debating on whether to approve Martha Koome as Chief Justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m worried about our speaker\u2019s whereabouts, Mr Speaker. We\u2019ve been reading online that the Speaker is under some kind of spell somewhere. How safe is our he?\u201d Tiaty MP William Kamket posed.<\/p>\n

Responding to Kamket, the National Assembly Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi, who was presiding over the session, assured the members that the speaker was fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe speaker has several other responsibilities, and today he is attending to one of them,\u201d Cheboi stated.<\/p>\n

Muturi, who is seeking to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt Kenya kingpin, is reported to be in seclusion at his home.<\/p>\n

He is undergoing an eight-day-cleansing process. During this time, he is only allowed to see a few elders who have undergone cleansing and only eats a special diet.<\/p>\n

This came months after Muturi was enthroned as the Mt Kenya East spokesman. He will speak for the Meru, Embu and Mbeere communities.<\/p>\n

Muturi was coronated by the Meru’s Njuri Ncheke elders in their shrine in Nchiru, Meru County.<\/p>\n

As President Uhuru\u2019s second term is coming to an end, the Mt. Kenya region is keen to find his successor in the region ahead of the 2022 general elections.<\/p>\n

Some of the other leaders seeking the position include; former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
