has awarded a woman who decided to quit her job to cater for abused women and children.<\/p>\n

In an emotional tribute broadcasted by the station on the Tuesday, May 18, under the banner, Mwanamke Bomba, the station awarded Kelly Karimi Rwigi with a shopping voucher of an unspecified amount.<\/p>\n

Rwigi was also lavished with several goodies while in studio and was honoured with a cake after emerging the top charitable woman ever featured on the platform.<\/p>\n

“I feel like today is the day God chose to wipe all my tears I go through for doing the job that I do.<\/p>\n

“To be known and appreciated is not a small feat. I thank God and all my friends. This cake here is all for you,” stated Rwigi who was also awarded a Jikokoa for cooking complete with a traditional-era pot.<\/p>\n

In a previous interview with The Standard, Rwigi revealed that she had quit her job in a well known telecommunications company to help the troubled children.<\/p>\n

Her decision was influenced by an unplanned pregnancy she suffered and the ensuing domestic violence from her lover and the father of her child.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was not even as young as they are, so if it was that difficult for me then, what is it like for them?<\/p>\n

“Immediately I finished high school, I met a guy and got pregnant. He was a violent person and he left when the baby was three months old. I had to move to Kibera. I survived by washing people\u2019s clothes,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

Over 70 children have gone through her programme and some continue to benefit from it while in her own home, she lives with seven children with only one being her biological.<\/p>\n

Rwigi emerged the winner on the programme and was awarded alongside Hannah Wambui and Susan Owuor who were first and second runners-up consecutively.<\/p>\n

Owuor runs a children homes dedicated at giving orphans another chance at life and love.<\/p>\n

The three women emerged winners in a voting exercise that was carried out by the Kilimani-based station on the International Women’s Day marked on May 9, 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
