Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Majority Leader Amos Kimunya has spoken out after he was put to task over his promise to resign from the post after Jubilee lost the Rurii Ward by-election.<\/p>\n

The Kipipiri MP’s words during the campaign came back to haunt him after he expressed confidence even putting his Majority leadership post on the line.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Wednesday, May 19, Kimunya explained that the declaration to resign was made in the moment of campaigning and it should not bear consequences on him.<\/p>\n

He added that he had failed to carry out public participation in his constituency before making the pronouncement.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately I did not consult the people of Kipipiri who I represent and this is a matter that requires public participation<\/p>\n

“When I consult, I doubt if the people of Kipipiri will allow me to bear the consequence on a matter of another constituency,” Kimunya conveyed.<\/p>\n

During the campaign period, Kimunya assured that Jubilee would win the seat. However, in a turn of events, the UDA candidate clinched the seat.<\/p>\n

“If we lose, I would rather resign, but I am certain that come May 18, Nyandarua people will unanimously vote for our Jubilee candidate. We will not just win, but win with a landslide,” he added.<\/p>\n

After the loss which saw UDA candidate, Francis Muraya declared the winner thrashing Jubilee’s Peter Thinji, Kimunya was hard-pressed to see to his promise.<\/p>\n

Kimunya had indicated that Nyandarua was President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard and told rival parties to look for elective seats in other counties.<\/p>\n

The Rurii seat ward was one of three where Jubilee failed to capture any with ODM winning the Bonchari parliamentary seat via former EPRA Boss Pavel Oimeke as well as the Juja seat which was won by PEP’s George Koimburi.<\/p>\n

While congratulating the winners, Kimunya urged the new elected leaders to deliver on their mandate adding that they had little time in the face of the upcoming general election.<\/p>\n
