Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Edwin Abonyo, the husband of the late Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso gave up the battle for Ksh100 million estate pitting him against his in-laws.<\/p>\n

The widower had been sued by his sister-in-law Judy Cheptoo who was against him being appointed the administrator of Laboso’s estate. The property also included wealth left behind by Laboso’s mother Rebecca Laboso.<\/p>\n

Abonyo had filed for control of the Ksh100 million estate in 2020 and was granted temporary orders to manage it in January 2021.<\/p>\n

This included a piece of land in Karen, a townhouse in Kilimani, a parcel of land in Kapletundo in Kericho County and another parcel in Sotik.<\/p>\n

Court papers detailed that Abonyo separated his property from those of his mother-in-law, arguing that he was no longer interested in taking control of the estate.<\/p>\n

He further told the court that he would share his property, a Karen mansion, a house in Kilimani, residential properties in Kisumu and Nakuru, shares in Saccos and high-end vehicles to his sons.<\/p>\n

His lawyers added their client was driven by the quest to unite and reduce tension within the family.<\/p>\n

“I am further advised by my advocates on record that there is a need to amend summons for confirmation of grant and the schedule of distribution for the estate of the deceased herein to indicate the assets solely owned by the deceased herein.<\/p>\n

“I am aware that the deceased (wife Joyce Laboso) was a co-administrator in the estate of the late Rebecca Laboso and a beneficiary in the said estate of her late mother therefore the need to include her share of the assets in the instant succession suit which assets brought about the protest,” the lawyers stated.<\/p>\n

Abonyo also noted that the mother-in-law’s property was being fought for by the relatives in another court in Kericho.<\/p>\n

Expunging his property from the general estate thus saved him from more litigation.<\/p>\n

Joyce Laboso passed away in July 2019 while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital\u2019s ICU unit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
