Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A section of students who emerged top in the Kenya School of Primary Education (KCPE) will likely miss their schools of choice due to limited space in some learning institutions.<\/p>\n

Majority of the students selected 17 traditional national schools and shunned those that were recently promoted to the status.<\/p>\n

Officials engaged in the process indicated that they have come up with a criteria where some of the students will be placed in the schools that they did not select.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion indicated that parents should not be engaged in a fishing expedition of the traditional schools.<\/p>\n

Instead, he advised parents to encourage their students to attend the ones selected for them by the Ministry.<\/p>\n

“That is a common phenomena in Kenya which is wrong. All schools are the same whether public or national or day schools,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Sossion urged students not to waste any time but quickly join the schools which they will be selected to and concentrate on their studies.<\/p>\n

“There is no school in Kenya that lacks resources,” he added.<\/p>\n

The students avoided selecting schools in Counties such as; Turkana, Wajir, Mandera, West Pokot, Lamu, Tana River, Marsabit and Garissa.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, traditional national schools such as Mang’u, Kenya High, Moi Girls’ Eldoret, Starehe, Lenana and Alliance were selected by many students.<\/p>\n

The top student in the 2020 KCSE exams Simiyu Robinson Wanjala came from Murang’a High School, which was elevated to national school status in 2014.<\/p>\n

While releasing the exams, Magoha noted that the overall performance in 2020 improved compared to that of 2019.<\/p>\n

He added that all the 1,179,182 million candidates would transition to secondary school, adding that form one selection would take place on May 28, 2021.<\/p>\n

The CS also announced that the government would give 9000 scholarships to students from needy backgrounds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
