Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Nairobi County Government has honoured COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli with a road named after him in the upmarket of Kileleshwa.<\/p>\n

The road was unveiled on Thursday, May 27, in the presence of Nairobi Deputy Governor Ann Kananu and other leaders.<\/p>\n

The COTU Secretary-General has since expressed gratitude towards following the honour accorded to him.<\/p>\n

“I want to thank the leadership of Nairobi County, under Ann Kananu for this great honour and recognition of services to the Government of the day, the community and Workers at large.<\/p>\n

“We will continue offering our unwavering support to the leadership of the County,” Atwoli stated.<\/p>\n

The COTU secretary general has been a long term residence of Kileleshwa. He, however, currently has his primary residence in Elgamat, Kajiado County along the Nairobi-Namanga road.<\/p>\n

Atwoli was recently re-elected for the fifth term unopposed. He will now serve for another five years until 2026.<\/p>\n

The secretary general was first elected as COTU Secretary-General in 2001, taking over from the late Joseph Joy Mugalla.<\/p>\n

The honour came just months after a road previously known as First Avenue in Eastleigh, Nairobi, was named after the late Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe service that the late senator rendered for this country is enough for him to be honoured. Haji\u2019s rise to the top from a public administration officer, Ijara MP, to assistant minister and later a minister is no small feat,\u201d Majority leader Amos Kimunya stated.<\/p>\n

Yusuf died while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital on February 15, 2021.<\/p>\n

In 2016, Forest Road was renamed Wangari Maathai Road, Cross Road in the CBD was renamed after veteran multi-partyism crusader Charles Rubia. The road between City Hall Annex and Cardinal Otunga Plaza to Uhuru Highway is now Cardinal Otunga Road.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
