Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Nairobi County Government launched a campaign to trace and rescue street children.<\/p>\n

The Street families Rehabilitation Trust Fund (SFRTF) started a four week rapid response exercise that saved 30 street kids.<\/p>\n

The SFRTF Chairperson, Mary Wambui, launched the exercise at Uhuru Park and mentioned that parents of the children would get money to take care of their families and start businesses.<\/p>\n

Kids aged 8-14 years old in the campaign will get educated and be united with their families.<\/p>\n

Kwetu Home of Peace will educate the 30 rescued children.<\/p>\n

After three to nine months in the programme, they will rejoin the community.<\/p>\n

Ksh12 million will be spent on uniting street families, monitoring child homes, education and therapy sessions.<\/p>\n

According to an SFRTF Census in 2018, there were 15,337 street persons in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

In the census, most of the street persons had primary school level education but did not go to secondary school.<\/p>\n

Influence from friends was the reason children aged 10-14 years were living on the streets.<\/p>\n

Living on the streets since birth, broken families, caning and poverty are the other reasons street families do not have homes.<\/p>\n

The report concluded that access to health care services as well as safe environments would solve the problems street families face.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
