Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga were expected to take their maiden trip to Kisumu from Naivasha using the revamped railway gauge.<\/p>\n

However, in a question and answer briefing with journalists, State House spokesperson Kanze Dena stated that the duo will not be using the train due to unavoidable circumstances.<\/p>\n

Instead, she stated, the president and first lady Margaret Kenyatta will be received at the Kisumu International Airport on May 30, 2021 for a three day tour.<\/p>\n

Earlier, media reports indicated that the trip had been cancelled following engineering setbacks.<\/p>\n

During his tour to the city, the president will officially open complete National Government projects, inspect ongoing initiatives and launch new projects.<\/p>\n

Some of the projects he is expected to commission include; Kisumu Port, the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, the Lake Basin Development Authority Mall, a ship at the dry dock, the marine school and the Uhuru Business Park.<\/p>\n

On the second day of his visit, the president will be accompanied by his Burundi counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye and first lady Angeline Ndayubaha.<\/p>\n

“He will join President Kenyatta during his tour of the various National Government Projects in Kisumu County and the Nyanza Region,” Kanze stated.<\/p>\n

The two first lady’s will be engaged in a number of programs whose details will be shared on a later date.<\/p>\n

The president has appealed to Kenyans to continue observing the Covid-19 containment measures while observing the 58th Madaraka Day Celebrations.<\/p>\n

“His excellency appeals to the passionate residents of Kisumu City to give the best account of themselves by avoiding situations that may compromise national efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic,” Kanze stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
