Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A section of Kisumu County residents held protests outside the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.<\/p>\n

The residents decried that they had not been allowed inside the stadium where President Uhuru Kenyatta will preside over the Madaraka Day celebrations.<\/p>\n

In the video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the police are seen trying to disperse the people from the main gate.<\/p>\n

“During campaigns, coronavirus is not an issue and that is when you need us. But today we are not allowed inside the stadium,” stated one man.<\/p>\n

“We have been here since morning. We are being denied entry into the stadium, all we want is to celebrate Madaraka,” lamented one protestor.<\/p>\n

Only citizens with an invitation card were allowed inside the stadium.<\/p>\n

The number of citizens attending the event was reduced from 30,000 to 3000 people.<\/p>\n

Statehouse Spokesperson, Kanze Dena explained that the move was as a result of the detection of the Indian variant in the region.<\/p>\n

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to arrive at 11 PM. The event will take less than two hours.<\/p>\n

Burundi President, Evariste Ndayishimiye will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.<\/p>\n

The two head of states addressed the media on Sunday, May 21, at the State Lodge, Kisumu.<\/p>\n

They unveiled their plans to work together and enhance collaboration in the countries.<\/p>\n
