Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A video recorded by a motorist on Thika Road captured a lorry and a bus racing the super-highway.<\/p>\n

In the undated video, the bus and lorry are seen to be moving at the same speed for a while before the bus overtakes the lorry.<\/p>\n

However, when the lorry tries to overtake the bus, the bus driver swerves from left to right, blocking the lorry driver from overtaking.<\/p>\n

He moved from one lane to another without indicating, an offence dubbed as obstruction.<\/p>\n

At one point, the lorry driver is forced to slow down after the bus driver intentionally forces him to the edge of the road, next to oncoming vehicles.<\/p>\n

The bus conductor and passenger in the back seat are seen throwing hands and exchanging words with the lorry driver.<\/p>\n

The incident forced other motorists to slow down. Motorists hooted continuously, stopping the further escalation of the matter.<\/p>\n

The lorry registered under plate number KYJ 644, slowed down after the intervention of other motorists.<\/p>\n

The video has since been brought to the attention of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).<\/p>\n

In October 2019, NTSA launched a new training programme for matatu drivers owing to an increase in road accidents.<\/p>\n

The Traffic Act also led to the introduction of a new curriculum in 2018. The new curriculum saw the revision of driving categories and the classification of vehicles a license holder can drive.<\/p>\n

In the new reforms, a mini-bus driver had to be at least 25 years of age and was limited to carry a maximum of 32 passengers and a minimum of three years experience in driving a van.<\/p>\n

Drivers of buses with a capacity of 33 passengers or more were required to be at least 30 years in age and have a minimum of two years of experience driving a minibus.<\/p>\n
