{"id":2915,"date":"2020-02-20T15:07:23","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T15:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/kenya\/?p=2915"},"modified":"2020-02-20T15:07:23","modified_gmt":"2020-02-20T15:07:23","slug":"makongeni-mca-imwatok-files-motion-to-impeach-sonko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/makongeni-mca-imwatok-files-motion-to-impeach-sonko","title":{"rendered":"Makongeni MCA Imwatok files motion to impeach Sonko"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Makongeni Member of County Assembly Peter Imwatok has filed an impeachment motion against Governor Mike Sonko.Sonko<strong>\u00a0(Pictured)<\/strong>\u00a0is accused of abuse of office, irregular tender awards among other issues.He is also\u00a0accused\u00a0of violating the constitution and incompetence.<\/p>\n<p>The MCA avers that Sonko\u2019s failure to appoint a deputy has paralysed operations of the county government. \u00a0Imwatok holds that Sonko has failed to control County debts and settle bills ashaming the office of the governor.This comes after Sonko hosted 53 MCAs for \u201clunch\u201d at his Upper Hill office in Nairobi Wednesday seen as part of his efforts to\u00a0frustrate his planned impeachment.<\/p>\n<p>Initial reports indicate that some 89 MCAs had signed a petition to oust him. The embattled governor is facing corruption charges and has been barred, by the court, from accessing City Hall.The Standard established that Sonko hosted the MCAs from both sides of the political divide during which he sought to convince them to drop their bid to remove him.<\/p>\n<p>A source said the MCAs were locked in the compound to ensure they don\u2019t attend the afternoon\u2019s plenary sitting at the county assembly. This was meant to ensure there was no quorum in the House.The source said the governor resorted to such measures for fear the motion was going to be tabled in the House yesterday.\u201cHe was trying to make sure the assembly had no quorum for the notice of motion of impeachment to be introduced.
