Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta came to the aid of six farmers in Murang’a County who had written a letter to him complaining of illegal grabbing of their land by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).<\/p>\n

The letter dated Monday, April 26, revealed the farmers’ woes as they accused KERRA of illegally trying to put up a public access road on their land.<\/p>\n

The Murang’a residents alleged that administrators and politicians had colluded with KERRA in order to grab the land.<\/p>\n

In a rejoinder, Uhuru directed Murang’a County commissioner Mohammed Barre to offer an immediate solution and ensure the land belonging to the locals is not interfered with.<\/p>\n

Central Region Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga affirmed that the situation had gotten out of hand before Uhuru’s intervention.<\/p>\n

“We are happy too that the President intervened and saved our land,” one of the locals stated.<\/p>\n

This is not the first time Uhuru has intervened in a land dispute. Recently, he gave the Ministry of Lands 21 days to solve a disputed 56,000-acre ranch in Narok County.<\/p>\n

The Head of State directed Lands Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri to lead a team of surveyors to the land in a bid to solve the pertinent issue.<\/p>\n

“The President has ordered the Ministry of Lands, the office of the county government to work together and solve the 40-year standoff between members of this group ranch with 21 days and prepare their titles for issuance in July,” Muraguri stated.<\/p>\n

Further, the President had also requested a section of Isiolo residents to withdraw cases they had filed in court against the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).<\/p>\n

Isiolo residents had accused the KDF 78 Batallion of forcefully evicting them by destroying their structures at night.<\/p>\n
