Failure to settle the fine, Kinyanjui risks 3-year imprisonment.<\/b><\/p>\n

The father of a 7-year-old boy whose video recording of him driving a Toyota Prado TX went viral has been arrested.<\/p>\n

According to a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the father, Ayub Kinyanjui Muigai, was arrested on Monday, June 14, for allowing his son to drive the car against Kenyan laws.<\/p>\n

Officers from Kirwara Police Station in Gatanga, Murang’a County nabbed the man registered as the owner of the car in liason with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).<\/p>\n

The police statement further indicated that Ayub was set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, June 15, and would be charged with permitting a minor to drive.<\/p>\n

The video went viral on Sunday, June 13, the minor was seen driving the car at Delview Park area in Gatanga, Thika.<\/p>\n

Reports indicated that at times, the child drove himself to school and judging by the voice of villagers speaking in the background, a minor’s driving in the area is a normal occurrence.<\/p>\n

According to the Kenyan constitution, a person is only allowed to drive after attaining the age of 18 years and have a full driving license valid.<\/p>\n

The laws also provide that a person can only hire a car in Kenya after attaining the age of 23 years.<\/p>\n

In November 2019, Nominated MP David Sankok was on the receiving end of angry lashes on social media after he posted a video of his underage son driving a car.<\/p>\n

In a clip the MP shared at the time, Sankok’s son was seen driving as his father cheered him on.<\/p>\n

While captioning the photo, Sankok stated that he believed in training children from an early age.<\/p>\n

“I support CBC because it will unleash the talents of our young ones because for a long time we have denied kids below 18 years driving licenses, aviation licenses and other technical duties. They may be below 18 years but they are not stupid,” he began.<\/p>\n

“If I buy a helicopter I will train them to fly, let us guide our kids in identifying their specific talents instead of focusing so much on classroom marks,” justified Sankok.<\/p>\n
