Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta has once again shown off his driving skills after taking the wheel of a Safari Rally car at State House.<\/p>\n

In the clip that was shared on Thursday, June 17, the Head of State is seen being strapped into the racing car before vrooming around the yard.<\/p>\n

He chose a Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) car known for its speed since its introduction 60 years ago.<\/p>\n

Driving with a passenger, who appeared to be his instructor, Uhuru is seen putting on a seatbelt before igniting the engine and taking off shortly after a photo op.<\/p>\n

He made the drive during an event in which he presented brand new rally cars to young Kenyan drivers Hamza Anwar (22), McRae Kimathi (26) and Jeremy Wahome (22).<\/p>\n

The President wished the young drivers success in the Safari Rally and in future local and international motorsport telling them to always be good Ambassadors Kenya.<\/p>\n

He further noted that Kenya is adequately prepared to welcome back the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally which kicks off in a week’s time.<\/p>\n

“It was 2010 when we started trying to work with WRC to ask them to get back. There were a lot of hurdles along the way.<\/p>\n

“The preparations have been intense and I want to thank all agencies, our private sector, and rally enthusiasts who have given their time and effort to ensure that this event takes place,” stated Uhuru.<\/p>\n

He also appealed to Kenyan motorsport enthusiasts who will be attending the four-day Safari Rally to behave well.<\/p>\n

“My hope and my prayer is that the manner in which we shall conduct ourselves over the next few days will be such that everybody will accept and understand that the Safari Rally is now here and is here to stay, and we’re not likely to lose it.<\/p>\n

“But that will depend on not only with how you all perform, all the agencies involved will perform, but how Kenyans themselves will behave,” he added.<\/p>\n

The event will take place from 24th to 27th June 2021 after 18-year hiatus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
