Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Spencer Sankale, the whistleblower in the Maasai Mara Heist expos\u00e9 that was aired on Citizen TV, has been relieved of his duties by his employer.<\/p>\n

Sankale who was the senior accounting officer at Maasai Mara University exposed how over Ksh177 million was allegedly swindled through a syndicate allegedly run by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor Mary Walingo.<\/p>\n

Chairman of Council, Kennedy ole Kerei, issued Sankale with a termination letter after he was accused of nine charges.<\/p>\n

A dismissal letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke indicated that Sankale was subjected to a disciplinary meeting held by the council on June 16, 2020.<\/p>\n

The findings of the meeting were that Sankale was found guilty of sustained incitement of the university staff and general public against his employer, sustained insolence against his employer and malicious misrepresentation of his employer.<\/p>\n

The other charges were libel and defamation and falsely maligning the image and reputation of the university.<\/p>\n

He was further accused of sustained insubordination and failure to act in the best interest of the university sustained disregard of university standard and procedure, sustained cyberbullying and sustained disregard of university standards and procedures.<\/p>\n

“Due to the aforementioned, the Council resolved to summarily terminate your employment with the university with immediate effect, in accordance with section 44 (4)(d)(g) of the Employment Act.<\/p>\n

“Note that you shall be paid a one month’s salary in lieu of notice,” the notice dated Thursday, June 17 read.<\/p>\n

Sankale was ordered to clear with relevant offices prior to leaving the institution.<\/p>\n

In August 2020, Sankale lamented that he faced numerous attacks from his colleagues and friends who turned against him for exposing his employers.<\/p>\n

“Things have turned out to the worst level possible. I became the black sheep at work and things are not well.<\/p>\n

“The theft has not stopped but we are sharing information with the relevant authorities as and when the theft occurs,” Sankale lamented.<\/p>\n

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of Vice-Chancellor Mary Walingo, a year after she was accused of fraud and embezzlement of public funds.<\/p>\n

Haji, on Monday, August 24, 2020, ordered the prosecution of the VC and four other administrators. The other four administrators roped in the scandal were Professor Simon Kasaine Ole Seno (Deputy Vice-Chancellor Finance), Professor John Almadi Obere (Acting Deputy VC Academic), Anaclet Biket Okumu (Finance Officer) and Noor Hassan Abdi (the Vice Chancellor\u2019s driver).<\/p>\n
