Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A Public Service Vehicle (PSV) driver was on Friday, June 18, arraigned in court and detained for four days.<\/p>\n

The driver, Patrick Macharia Magu, was involved in an accident that ended in the death of Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua’s daughter, Nelly Waithera.<\/p>\n

Magistrate Esther Kimilu heard that Waithera sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital where she succumbed while receiving treatment.<\/p>\n

An affidavit presented in court indicated that the suspect reversed the motor vehicle sandwiched Waithera, implicating serious injuries on her.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, he is said to have fled the scene in a bid to avoid arrest. He was, however, arrested later at University Way.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe suspect\u2019s action of escaping from the scene is a clear indication that he had no intention of reporting the accident or presenting himself to any police station or police officer,\u201d the affidavit reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat this court be pleased to issue a custodial order that the respondent be detained for four days at central police station as a postmortem has been booked and scheduled for today (Friday),” reads an affidavit.<\/p>\n

A detective requested four days to complete investigations into the matter.<\/p>\n

Her body is being preserved at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital mortuary.<\/p>\n

Both vehicles were towed and detained at Central Police Station awaiting inspection.<\/p>\n
