Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>KRA expects to collect Ksh200 million in an auction that seeks to dispose of 314 cars and assorted goods in 223 containers.<\/p>\n

The two-day auction is scheduled to take place from June 23 to June 24 in Mombasa.<\/p>\n

On May 21, KRA gave shippers a 30-day notice to transfer their goods, lest they be auctioned. The notice expired on Monday, June 21.<\/p>\n

High-end vehicles brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Land Rover are among those listed by KRA.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of bidders eying the goods travelled to the coastal town as early as Saturday, June 19.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be the biggest auction. It will be transparent and all Kenyans will have an equal chance to participate,\u201d stated Joseph Tonui, KRA Southern Region Coordinator.<\/p>\n

Other items include books, bicycles, clothes, building materials household goods, citric acid, and drums containing bitumen.<\/p>\n

The items were displayed at the Custom Warehouses within the port and designated container freight stations within Mombasa and Nairobi.<\/p>\n

KRA is racing to meet its revenue collection target before the end of this financial year which comes to an end on June 30. Last month, KRA conducted another auction that raised Ksh50 million in revenue.<\/p>\n

In 2018, a similar auction netted a record Ksh100 million after Kenyans bought unclaimed goods including vehicles that were destined for South Sudan and Ugandan.<\/p>\n

KRA has also escalated its crackdown on businesspeople accused of tax fraud. On June 19, a Pakistani car dealer was ordered to pay the taxman Ksh1.8 billion after he was found guilty of tax evasion. .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
