Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji, on Monday, June 21, explained why Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei’s murder case has dragged for over a year.<\/p>\n

Kenei was an Administration Police officer attached to the office of Deputy President William Ruto. The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti had earlier stated that he was investigating a murder rather than a suicide case.<\/p>\n

Haji faulted the DCI, arguing that he has never furnished him with a file on the case.<\/p>\n

According to the DPP, the lack of a file and concrete evidence prevented him from approving charges against any suspect in the case.<\/p>\n

“There is no Kenei’s case. The murder or suicide one? No, that file has never come to us,” Haji disclosed in an interview with Nation.<\/p>\n

He added that the case may drag for a while but asked Kenyans to be patient with his office.<\/p>\n

Kenei was found dead at his home in Imara Daima, Nairobi in February 2020. His death was linked to a Ksh40 billion fake gun scandal that roped in former Sports CS Rashid Echesa.<\/p>\n

On Monday, June 21, witnesses stated that Echesa took two white men to the office of DP Ruto before he was arrested over defrauding Polish traders in the fake gun scandal.<\/p>\n

Security details at Ruto’s office were reported to have confiscated a bag and mobile phones belonging to the white men before they were allowed into the premises.<\/p>\n

Echesa was alleged to have told the guards that he and the two foreigners had an appointment with the DP. Witnesses nonetheless stated that they did not see any money transaction take place<\/p>\n

Nicholas Maiyo – Ruto’s bodyguard -admitted that he let the trio into a waiting room at the Harambee Annex offices. He then called Ruto’s Karen office to ascertain the DP’s whereabouts and was told that he was heading to Kandara, Murang’a County for a burial ceremony.<\/p>\n

Maiyo added that he didn\u2019t confiscate Echesa\u2019s phone for he wanted the former CS to confirm that the DP was unavailable and maybe reschedule the meeting.<\/p>\n
