Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Patrick Macharia Magu, the matatu driver who was reportedly involved in the accident that claimed the life of Deputy IG Edward Mbugua’s daughter, appeared before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Nanzushi on Friday, June 25.<\/p>\n

He repudiated a charge of causing death by dangerous driving. Magu was released on a cash bail of Ksh 300,000.<\/p>\n

The deceased, Nelly Waithera, was sandwiched between two matatus along Tom Mboya street, Maragua Lane in Nairobi\u2019s CBD on June 17th.<\/p>\n

According to witnesses, a reversing Matatu, driven by the defendant, crushed her against another one that was stationary causing her severe head contusions.<\/p>\n

Macharia is said to have been driving a 25-seater minibus operated under KMO Sacco at 8:00 AM when the tragedy occurred.<\/p>\n

Upon realizing his actions, Magu took to his heels but was shortly caught along University Way and was taken to Central Police Station. Both vehicles involved in the incident were impounded after which investigations by police began.<\/p>\n

At this time, Nelly was quickly transported to Kenyatta National Hospital where she succumbed to the injuries while being attended to by medics. The deceased\u2019s body was then taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home for preservation and postmortem.<\/p>\n

Consequently, a statement by police implicating drivers of both matatus was issued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis occurred today on 17\/6\/2021 at about 0800hrs along Tom Mboya street \u2013 Muranga lane junction involving vehicle reg .no KB* 0** B, Isuzu minus c\/o KMO Sacco driven by Patrick Macharia Magu, and m\/vehicle reg.no KBL 744A Isuzu bus c\/o City shuttle driven by Christopher Maina Kirecho and a pedestrian namely Nelly Waithera aged 25 years,\u201d the police report read.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
