Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) candidate Anne Mwikali Kiusya on Wednesday, July 7, had a hard time answering the queries posed by the selection panel.<\/p>\n

Kiusya was put to task over issues regarding the commission’s systems and the changes she would implement if appointed as commissioner.<\/p>\n

However, a particular question posed by the vice-chairperson of the panel James Achoka Awori proved to be quite a quandary for the candidate.<\/p>\n

“In our country, voting is very important, but sometimes you vote and it does not count. What is the problem with our system that makes people’s votes not to count?” Achoka posed.<\/p>\n

“Pardon, the vote does not count?” Kiusya sought clarification.<\/p>\n

“Let me rephrase, people turn out to vote but you find out that at the end of the day a voter had cast a vote for candidate x and it’s not reflected when the results are being declared,” Achoka pointed out.<\/p>\n

Kiusya, not sure of the query, took time to ponder to which the vice-chair proceeded to hand it back to the chair of the selection panel, Elizabeth Muli.<\/p>\n

“Okay, thank you,” he stated.<\/p>\n

This comes as another IEBC candidate Abdalla Mohammed withdrew from the race after the panel questioned the authenticity of his academic papers.<\/p>\n

The panel pointed out that Mohammed claimed to have graduated from Kenya Methodist University- a claim which was disputed by the university’s vice-chancellor.<\/p>\n

“The selection panel acknowledges and confirms the withdrawal of his candidature,” Muli affirmed.<\/p>\n

The commission shortlisted 33 other candidates scheduled to be interviewed in the coming days. The applicants were shortlisted from a list of 700 applicants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
