Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>More than 18,600 Kenyans have applied to fill vacant positions advertised by the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in mid-May.<\/p>\n

A highly placed source from the ODPP confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that 18,647 individuals sent their applications seeking to fill just 388 positions.<\/p>\n

Broken down, 17,484 applied in the category of the external advertisements while 1,163 sought to fill internally advertised positions.<\/p>\n

In the external advertisement category, the position of Office Assistant III recorded the highest applications at 2,858 followed by the Research Officer position that attracted 2,552 and Administrative Officer III that had 1,438.<\/p>\n

In the internal sector, Senior Prosecution Counsel lead in the number of applications which stood at 339 followed by Clerical Officer II (265) and Principal Prosecution Counsel (234).<\/p>\n

In an advertisement that ran on May 12, the ODPP called for applications for 388 jobs whose salaries range from Ksh21,000 to Ksh320,000 depending on the level ranging from entry-level to senior management positions.<\/p>\n

All candidates are required to submit their applications by Thursday, June 17, and will be on a permanent and pensionable basis.<\/p>\n

High salaried positions included Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (Ksh 321,453- Ksh 232,687) with a vacancy of 4 positions and Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (Ksh 252,500- Ksh 181,000) that had a vacancy of 20 positions.<\/p>\n

High Profile Case Review<\/b><\/p>\n

DPP Noordin Haji has also sought to clear the air regarding his recent directive asking other agencies to submit all high-profile cases to his headquarters in Upper Hill.<\/p>\n

He explained that it was the standard operating procedure in all Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) countries.<\/p>\n

“I am within my powers as per the constitution and this happens in all commonwealth countries. We have a threshold.<\/p>\n

“The purpose of this is to streamline and ensure that they (high profile cases) are dealt with by the right prosecutors who have the expertise to deal with complex cases,” he explained.<\/p>\n
