{"id":31372,"date":"2021-07-13T14:12:56","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T14:12:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=31372"},"modified":"2021-07-13T13:54:05","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T13:54:05","slug":"lsk-ceo-mercy-wambua-accuses-nelson-havi-of-assaulting-her","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/lsk-ceo-mercy-wambua-accuses-nelson-havi-of-assaulting-her","title":{"rendered":"LSK CEO Mercy Wambua Accuses Nelson Havi Of Assaulting Her"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Law Society Kenya Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mercy Wambua filed an assault complaint with the police against the society&#8217;s President Nelson Havi.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ms Wambua, the LSK president assaulted her during a meeting held on Monday, July 12.<\/p>\n<p>This comes in the backdrop of a fierce war of words that had erupted between Havi and Wambua barely two days ago.<\/p>\n<p>The leadership wrangles within the society publicly soared on Friday, July 9 after Havi, in a press statement, called out Wambua for preventing plans for a planned audit on the use of allocated funds.<\/p>\n<p>Havi read at the society\u2019s headquarters in Nairobi and accused Wambua of being in office illegally and colluding with financial institutions to deny members statements of expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>The LSK President further claimed that Wambua failed to alter signatories to banks in which accounts of the society are registered.<\/p>\n<p>According to Havi, the society\u2019s efforts to access bank statements were frustrated and this consequently compromised the planned internal audit.<\/p>\n<p>It is alleged that this failure could be traced to deliberate acts by Wambua. A previous conclusion by members to have her on compulsory leave failed as she rebuffed instructions to vacate office.<\/p>\n<p>Havi claimed that the CEO had made over Ksh 70 million worth of transactions devoid of both standard procedure and the approval of members.<\/p>\n<p>The LSK lead further alleged that Wambua operated a mobile pay bill number through which millions of shillings were received without the council\u2019s knowledge, further alluding to the rogue nature of operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is evident that there is an entrenched relationship between Mercy Wambua and officers in all banks where accounts of the society are domiciled,\u201d Havi stated.<\/p>\n<p>But Wambua brushed off Havi\u2019s claims, stating that the allegations were false.<\/p>\n<p>She maintained that her stay in office was legally sanctioned after the courts revoked a proposition that would have her out on compulsory leave.
