Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company announced some parts of the capital will be hit by a water shortage<\/p>\n

In a statement on Wednesday, July 14, the NCWSC announced it will cut water supply around Uhuru Highway which will affect the supply to the University of Nairobi main campus, Coca Cola factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and EPZ in Athi River.<\/p>\n

Other affected regions will be the whole of the Industrial Area, City Stadium, Maringo, Bahati, Buruburu and their surrounding estates.<\/p>\n

Notably, the whole city centre will be affected as well as areas along Mombasa road, South B and South C. The shutdown will start from 6:00 am on Thursday, 15th July 2021 to Friday, 16th July 2021 at 6:00 am.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will facilitate interconnection of the relocated new and old water pipelines on Uhuru Highway between Haile Selassie avenue and Bunyala road junctions to enable the release of the road corridor to the expressway road contractor,” a statement from NCWSC read in part.<\/p>\n

The water supply pipeline will be affected due to the ongoing construction of the Express Way. The Nairobi Express Way will link the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and James Gichuru Road.<\/p>\n

Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary (CS) James Macharia stated that the Express Way will be ready by February 2022.<\/p>\n

It was initially announced that the Expressway would be ready by September 2022 but the Government urged the constructor to deliver it early to ease traffic snarl-up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe requested the Ministry of Interior to offer security to the contractor to ensure smooth operations on a 24-hour basis. We are glad they are working in shifts that will see the road completed before schedule,\u201d the CS stated during an inspection.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, July 10, Macharia announced that the Ksh63 billion road, was 60 percent complete, noting that the China Roads and Bridges Company (CRBC) was working 24 hours daily.<\/p>\n

The expressway begins at Mlolongo via the Central Business District to Waiyaki way and it consists of 11 inter-changes to ease exit and entry.<\/p>\n

CS Macharia stated that once completed, Kenya\u2019s first road to be tolled under a public-private Partnership will see motorists take 20 minutes to drive from Mlolongo to Rironi near Limuru, through Westlands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
