{"id":31615,"date":"2021-07-16T15:30:02","date_gmt":"2021-07-16T15:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=31615"},"modified":"2021-07-16T13:48:15","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T13:48:15","slug":"uda-win-in-kiambaa-should-worry-ruto-waiguru","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/uda-win-in-kiambaa-should-worry-ruto-waiguru","title":{"rendered":"UDA win in Kiambaa should worry Ruto \u2014 Waiguru"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President William Ruto needs over 100 per cent of Mt Kenya support if he has to convert Kiambaa win ahead of 2022, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has said.<\/p>\n<p>The United Democratic Alliance party candidate had a narrow victory in the Kiambaa by-election.<\/p>\n<p>Njuguna Wanjiku won against rival Kariri Njama of Jubilee in the concluded by-elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat should worry DP Ruto who needs 101 per cent of Mt Kenya support if his candidacy is to convert to the State House,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it is still a year before the 2022 elections which in politics is a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Via Twitter on Friday, Waiguru said for Jubilee, this should be a warning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Jubilee, it is that its core supporters are unhappy and urgent action is needed to forestall further downwards slide,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor UDA this is probably the best they will do in Central Kenya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waiguru said in Kenya\u2019s electoral history by-elections have always been outliers with little or no relationship with the general election.<\/p>\n<p>According to IEBC, Njuguna received 21,773 votes while Njama followed closely with 21,263 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Although there were eight aspirants, the contest narrowed down to a two-horse race pitting Jubilee and UDA.<\/p>\n<p>However, Joseph Githinji of the Jubilee Party won the Muguga Ward seat, the IEBC has announced after the tallying of all the 29 polling stations.<\/p>\n<p>Githinji narrowly won with 4,089 votes against his closest rival, Peter Kamau of UDA who garnered 4,062 votes &#8211; a difference of 27 votes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Edited by Kiilu Damaris<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
