Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi now says the relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto is normal.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citizen TV, Ahmednasir explained that in Kenya’s history, the relationship between presidents and their deputies has always been strained.<\/p>\n

According to the lawyer, every president has always treated his deputy very badly and every president did not want his deputy to succeed him.<\/p>\n

The Senior Counsel stated that there is nothing unusual in the relationship between the president and the deputy because ‘that is always what happens’.<\/p>\n

Ahmednasir stated that unlike in the previous constitution where presidents could fire their deputies when they disagreed, the current constitution does not give that provision as the two are elected together.<\/p>\n

The city lawyer likened the president and his deputy to being joined at the hip.<\/p>\n

Grand Mullah further explained that according to the Constitution of Kenya (2010), the deputy president is the deputy principal to the president.<\/p>\n

“It is not like a personal entitlement or a personal favour the president is doing his deputy president. The constitution states that the deputy president is the principal assistant to the president,” he reiterated.<\/p>\n

In response to a question posed by the show’s, host, he agreed that the president and his deputy should tolerate each other for the remaining part of their term.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the Wilson Airport incident where DP Ruto was blocked from leaving the country, Ahmednasir stated that the relationship between Kenya and Uganda remains intact.<\/p>\n

He called out on politicians to stop exaggerating the matter, stating that Ruto was on a private visit and was not visiting Uganda as a state guest.<\/p>\n

This followed the statement by a section of ODM leaders on Wednesday, August 4 in which they expressly questioned the intentions of the DP’s visit to Uganda. The leaders accused Ruto of having relations with a president of questionable character.<\/p>\n
