Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Siaya Senator James Orengo has implored Members of Parliament to summon Deputy President William Ruto over his relationship with deported Turkish businessman Harun Aydin who has been red-flagged for involvement in money laundering.<\/p>\n

The senator spoke during the burial of Jaduong Nyakwamba, the father to Homa bay senator Moses Kajwang’, politician Tom Kajwang and the late Otieno Kajwang’ on Saturday, August 14.<\/p>\n

He argued that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had tabled enough evidence to put the DP to his defense.<\/p>\n

“We must summon Ruto before the parliamentary committee to speak on this matter and give us an answer if he is being truthful.<\/p>\n

“How can you have business in Uganda, instead of leaving Turkey and going to Uganda directly, you pass through Nairobi? They were trying to create a network for money laundering,” Orengo stated.<\/p>\n

The senator warned Kenyans against electing leaders such as the DP alleging that he was using the language of autocrats and dictators.<\/p>\n

Events began unfolding on August 2, 2021, when the DP was blocked from travelling to Uganda with the businessman.<\/p>\n

Harun was allowed to leave the country for Uganda where he stayed for five days before coming back on August 7, 2021 when he was arrested at the Wilson Airport.<\/p>\n

He was in custody until August 9, 2021, when he was deported back to Turkey.<\/p>\n

Speaking before a parliamentary committee in Mombasa on Friday, August 13, Matiang’i stated that the deportation of the businessman was done following an agreement between Kenya and the Turkish government.<\/p>\n

Matiang’i added that Aydin would have been charged with with money laundering and terrorism-related crimes.<\/p>\n

“His passport shows he has left the country twice without a stamp of arrival, this means he was sneaked into the country, and this is alarming enough to kick him out. Issuance of a work permit doesn’t guarantee a permanent stay in the country.<\/p>\n

“Information filled on the work permit was incorrect and fraudulent, he is not an investor as purported. There’s no investment anywhere. He was a criminal, a strange character masquerading as an investor,” Matiang’i added.<\/p>\n

He concluded that the government had not apologised to the Turkey government as had earlier been claimed by Deputy President William Ruto.<\/p>\n

“As a responsible public servant, I cannot bring myself to apologise. I have a responsibility to safeguard the country,” the CS stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
