Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>52 Kenyans who were stranded in the Afghanistan capital city, Kabul have finally been rescued by the Kenyan Beijing Embassy, and are now safe in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

Among those rescued were 12 private contractors who were working in the war-torn country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother group of forty Kenyans was evacuated to Kazakhstan late Wednesday night,” a statement from the ministry says in part.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Kenyan missions in the Gulf region are continuing to reach out to those employed in the security sector and others engaged by private companies in Afghanistan who are yet to be evacuated,\u201d wrote the ministry.<\/p>\n

The authorities added that they will continue to offer updates on the situation in Kabul.<\/p>\n

All this is happening amid protests in Kabul, with locals calling out for help from the international community against the Taliban who are slowly but surely taking over the country.<\/p>\n

The Taliban spokesperson earlier in the week issued a statement, saying that the country will be governed by sharia law.<\/p>\n

A mid all this turmoil, foreign countries continue to evacuate their nationals from Kabul, even as the United Nations calls for peace in the country.<\/p>\n

Explaining the delay in evacuating the Kenyans, the ministry said Kenya has no diplomatic presence in Afghanistan nor accreditation.<\/p>\n

\u201cNevertheless, the ministry through the Kenya High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan, which is the nearest mission to Afghanistan, has reached out to our allies to get information of any Kenyans stranded in Afghanistan,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
