Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Transport Cabinet Administrative Secretary, Wavinya Ndeti, and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairperson, Johnstone Muthama, were embroiled in an ugly confrontation that nearly turned physical during the burial of Mzee James Muthama, the father of Ulbanus Muthama, in Machakos on Friday, August 20.<\/p>\n

Ulbanus Muthama contested in the March 2021 Machakos Senatorial by-election on a UDA ticket but lost to Kavindu Muthama, the former wife of Johnstone Muthama.<\/p>\n

In attendance alongside UDA chairman were Senator Kavindu, CAS Wavinya, former Kakamega Senator, Boniface Khalwale, Mwala MP, Vincent Musyoka, and Machakos town MP, Victor Munyaka.<\/p>\n

Wavinya, while addressing the mourners, urged the region to rally behind One Kenya Alliance in which former Vice President and Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, is a co-principal. The CAS, speaking in both English and the Kamba dialect, stated that OKA was the region’s alliance and one that would ensure they are in power in 2022.<\/p>\n

She further castigated UDA allies, Muthama and the MPs Vincent Musyoka and Victor Munyaka, for supporting Deputy President William Ruto, instead of Kalonzo in the President Uhuru Kenyatta succession race.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going into the 2022 General Election and there are people who are generating a lot of heat. Kidole moja hakiwezi kumuua chawa (One finger cannot killed a louse). Those criticising OKA\u2019s unity are the enemy of progress in Kenya,” stated Wavinya.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must be united as we all need each other. You cannot claim that you will stand on your own. For us the Kamba, we shall stand with our own,\u201d Wavinya declared much to the chagrin of DP Ruto\u2019s allies.<\/p>\n

Senator Kavindu Muthama reiterated CAS Wavinya\u2019s stand. Mwala MP, Vincent Musyoka, an ally of Ruto, however, lashed back at the CAS and the Senator arguing that Kalonzo was an underdog in the race.<\/p>\n

The youthful MP escalated his vitriol on Kalonzo, forcing the CAS to take to the podium to defend Kalonzo. This led to an altercation between the two leaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want peace. Let us discuss peace at this burial,\u201d Wavinya stated as she attempted to grab the microphone. The organisers, however, separated the two leaders and restored calm for the meanwhile.<\/p>\n

Muthama, the UDA chairperson and former Machakos Senator, nonetheless heightened the tensions at the funeral by accusing the Wiper leaders of worshipping Kalonzo. He called on the politicians to support each other\u2019s choices and preferences.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet someone answer back and I will come where they are and face you. Answer me and see,\u201d a visibly angry Muthama dared, wagging his finger at the other leaders.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that the funeral was momentarily disrupted as the police intervened to calm the agitated and divided followers of the politicians who almost went physical. Some mourners were reported to have walked out in protest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
