Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party headed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called for a meeting to deliberate on the party’s future after the collapse of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).<\/p>\n

Speaking in Mombasa on Sunday, August 22, Mvita MP Abdulswammad Nassir, who is a member of ODM, disclosed that the meeting was scheduled for the week beginning Monday, August 23.<\/p>\n

He noted that the meeting was aimed at charting the way forward for the party after the Court of Appeal declared the BBI process null and void.<\/p>\n

Nassir further stated that the ruling was a result of the party’s fight to ensure that the Judiciary had the power to make independent decisions.<\/p>\n

“We fought for this prior to this current constitution that is being enjoyed. Some of the things we fought for was the independence of the Judiciary. The Constitution is not supposed to be for a particular individual but for every Kenyan.<\/p>\n

“They are celebrating courtesy of what our brigade fought for. Some of them were against the Constitution to be changed,”<\/p>\n

“It is time to move on as a party. The party will be holding PG sometime next week and we will be charting the way forward,” he added.<\/p>\n

His statement comes after ODM Party leader Raila Odinga vowed that his team would not pursue an appeal at the Supreme Court regarding the ruling.<\/p>\n

He noted that he was dedicating the time to campaign for the Presidency position ahead of the 2022 General Election.<\/p>\n

Nassir statement comes just hours after Seme MP James Nyikal, who is a member of the party, revealed that the team would move to Parliament to pursue the Constitution amendments contained in the proposal.<\/p>\n

Jubilee Party, which supported BBI, also declared that it would not file an appeal against the decision and would rather respect the court’s decision and shift its direction towards the 2022 General Election.<\/p>\n

The party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju noted that trying to file an appeal would be a waste of time.<\/p>\n
