Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Members of Parliament (MPs) allied to Deputy President William Ruto have accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of misusing of tax money in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).<\/p>\n

On Sunday, August 22, the lawmakers including Aldai MP Cornelly Serem and his Tinderet counterpart Julius Melly, vowed to sue President Uhuru to refund the Ksh13.5 billion allegedly spent on the BBI.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a fundraiser at St.Pauls Theological college in Kapsabet, Serem asked the President to personally repay back the money that was used to finance BBI campaigns and popularization.<\/p>\n

“Ksh13.5 billion can transform this country. We are actually going to put up a case against the president to make sure that he repays back the money,” opine the Aldai lawmaker.<\/p>\n

The legislator noted that the government spent a lot of money to finance a document that was illegal.<\/p>\n

He maintained that the President never sought authority from National Assembly to spend the 13.5 billion on BBI.<\/p>\n

“Our President never got authority from the parliament to spend the money and should therefore pay back our Ksh13.5 billion he spent,” stated the lawmaker.<\/p>\n

The MPs opined that the funds would have been better used to undertake several projects to the benefit of Kenyans.<\/p>\n

Their sentiments echoed by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro who criticised the government on the funds spent on the nullified document.<\/p>\n

The Court of Appeal on Friday, August 20, upheld the High Court ruling on the invalidity of BBI, declaring the document as unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

The Appellate judges faulted the procedures in the BBI process, accusing the proponents of the document and taking shortcuts in the implementation of the document.<\/p>\n

Various political leaders who were proponents of the document, reacted to the negative news, with ODM Leader Raila Odinga resigning not to appeal the ruling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
