Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Secretariat has announced that it will move to the Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision that annulled the bill.<\/p>\n

Speaking at BBI Secretariat offices in Nairobi, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed stated that there were many contradictions in both the High Court and Court of Appeal’s ruling that would create confusion and legal chaos in the country if left unsolved.<\/p>\n

He added that Kenyans deserved clarity on why the courts would deny the bill that was supported by more than four million people.<\/p>\n

He affirmed that both the High Court and the Court of Appeal failed to appreciate the delicate balance needed.<\/p>\n

“We need the highest court in the land to pronounce itself on the matter,” Junet stated.<\/p>\n

The move contradicts an earlier statement made by ODM Leader Raila Odinga that they would not challenge the decision made by the appellate court.<\/p>\n

Junet alongside his BBI Secretariat co-chairperson Dennis Waweru detailed the reasons for challenging the decision.<\/p>\n

The Suna East Mp pointed out that the bill was the crucial cure to solve the gender inequality issue within parliament.<\/p>\n

He added that all attempts to solve the prevailing issue has failed despite former Chief Justice David Maraga issuing an advisory on the same.<\/p>\n

Junet advocated for the BBI as the solution to solve the issue on inequality, whereby he avocated for policies to enhance Kenyan’s lives.<\/p>\n

“The issue of inequality traces its origins to the social and economic policies in the colonial era and the immediate post independence period.The policies we have pursued over the last 50 plus years have made Kenya many countries in one.<\/p>\n

“We have noted that while a section of Kenyans have done extremely well others have grown extremely poorover the same period,” Junet stated.<\/p>\n

The legislator noted the growing frustations by Kenyans over inadequate job opportunities and absence of social protection to the poor and vulnerable. He stated that the BBI was the remedy to create an economy for every Kenyan.<\/p>\n

On the issue of corruption, he noted that BBI recommended several measures to deal with the menace including speedy prosecution and conclusion of graft cases, stiffer penalties and aggressive recovery of stolen public resources.<\/p>\n

Initially, Raila had affirmed that his team would not pursue the matter further and that their focus would be on the 2022 General Election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
