Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Quins have appealed against a decision to exclude them from the Kenya Cup semifinals slated for this weekend.<\/p>\n

The eight-time champions believe they finished fourth on the log and were due to play league leaders Kabras with the other semi pitting KCB against Menengai Oilers.<\/p>\n

According to the the final standings released by the Kenya Rugby Union last weekend, Menengai Oilers placed third with 30 points, Strathmore Leos were fourth (27 points) while Quins finished fifth on 25.<\/p>\n

According to Quins’ chairman Michael Wanjala, Strathmore should be stripped off the five points against Masinde Muliro University last weekend as the match was supposed to have been played in July.<\/p>\n

“This game should have been played in July and not this weekend. Strathmore were due to play Mwamba instead last weekend,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

On their part, Strathmore blamed the union for causing confusion in the final fixtures, according to coach Louis Kisia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were already on the road travelling to play MMUST in Nandi only for the union tell us to abandon the match when all the logistical preparations were in place.However, we decided to play the match,\u201d said Kisia<\/p>\n

Wanjala said they have submitted appeal documents to Appeals Committee headed by former international Edward Rombo and believe they have a strong case.<\/p>\n

“I do believe we have strong case and it will set a precedent going forward. The laws have to be followed to the letter and teams must be rewarded on merit,” he noted. A decision by the Appeals Committee is expected at the end of the week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
