Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President William Ruto’s allies from the Mt Kenya Region have asked him to change his strategy if he wants to ascend to the Presidency.<\/p>\n

Some of his close associates from the region challenged him to spearhead the formation of a coalition with his party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to increase his chances of winning.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki said it would be difficult for the DP to win the Presidency without presenting a formidable coalition with the region’s political parties.<\/p>\n

He argued that democratic stability can only be achieved by a broad based coalition government like that of former President Mwai Kibaki.<\/p>\n

“I know my friend DP Ruto has said that he is not interested in coalition-making, but the diversity of the Kenyan society requires a coalition government,” Kindiki told pressmen.<\/p>\n

His sentiments were corroborated by former Tharaka Nithi Governor, Samuel Rangwa who noted that in coalitions, there will be a variety of views.<\/p>\n

He further noted that considering many of the DP’s allies suffered for supporting him, he stood a better chance forming a coalition government.<\/p>\n

This comes even as the DP, on numerous occasions, dismissed coalitions, terming them “conduits of tribal politics”.<\/p>\n

In mid-August, Ruto challenged One Kenya Alliance (OKA) leaders as well as former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to form National Parties, aimed at uniting Kenyans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey must first dismantle their ethnic-based parties and form a national outfit the way we have done it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why we have come up with an economic model that will take the country back to the growth path,” stated Ruto, while praising UDA’s hustler movement.<\/p>\n

His sentiments came after President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM’s Raila and OKA leaders Gideon Moi (Kanu), Moses Wetangula(Ford Kenya), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) held a meeting at State House Mombasa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
