Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>After falling out of the medal bracket at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics, Rodgers Kiprop and Wilson Bii have blamed the lack of access to blindfolds and the hot summer weather for their woes.<\/p>\n

Kiprop, overall Team Kenya captain, finished fourth in the men’s 5000m T11 final, timing 15:27.06, whereas Bii finished ninth in 17:31.73.<\/p>\n

Brazilian Jacques Yelstin went home with the gold in 15:13.62, ahead of Japanese Karasawa Kenya (15:18.12) and Wada Shinya (15:21.03) also of Japan in second and third respectively.<\/p>\n

“I thank God for the far he has brought me and for enabling me to come fourth. It has been a race full of challenges beginning from the call room where we were told we had to have a blindfold or else we wouldn’t be allowed to compete. Thank God for my Brazilian friend who lent me one of his blindfolds,” Kiprop said.<\/p>\n

He said he had enjoyed the race and was satisfied with the result considering the harsh weather conditions in the Japanese capital.<\/p>\n

“The weather is also very hot and this was quite a challenge for me during the race. All in all, I can say it was a good race save for the fact that I need to work on my kick in the last lap. That was the other thing that let me down today,” he said.<\/p>\n

On his part, Bii, who won bronze in the same race at the Rio Olympics in 2016, said he is focusing ahead after a disappointing outing this time round.<\/p>\n

“I would like to thank all those who have made it possible for us to compete in Tokyo this time round. I congratulate my friend Rodgers for his great performance. We almost never competed for lack of blindfolds but I am thankful to God for making a way,” he said.<\/p>\n
