{"id":3449,"date":"2020-03-01T15:11:28","date_gmt":"2020-03-01T15:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/kenya\/?p=3449"},"modified":"2020-03-01T15:11:28","modified_gmt":"2020-03-01T15:11:28","slug":"leaders-endorse-matiangi-for-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/policy\/leaders-endorse-matiangi-for-presidency","title":{"rendered":"Leaders endorse Matiang\u2019i for presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the struggle for political supremacy continues long ahead of the 2022 general elections, some politicians are nudging Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang\u2019i (pictured) to contest the presidency.The Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary, who is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Friday described as the most fitting politician to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Loyalty to President<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Matiangi, who was in Murang\u2019a to attend a homecoming party was equated to the late Cabinet Minister John Michuki both in his performance of Cabinet duties and his loyalty to the president.Borabu MP Ben Momanyi ignited the debate on possibility of the CS taking over from Uhuru when he told the gathering that he was equal to the task.Speaking at Gakoigo grounds in Maragua on Friday where the CS was chief guest during thanksgiving ceremony for NCIC Commissioner Wambui Nyutu, Momanyi said Kikuyu community should \u00a0join hands with the Kisii in support of the CS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCS Matiang\u2019i has the support from Western region of the country and especially his Kisii backyard, and\u00a0 the best lieutenant for Kenyatta,\u201d Momanyi said. Former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe described Matiang\u2019i as a performer. \u201cKenyatta will get a worthy leader who will safe guard interests of Kenyans,\u201d Murathe said. Reading from the same script,\u00a0Mt Kenya Foundation chairman Peter Munga said Matiang\u2019i\u2019s performance was good.\u201cThe CS has been loyal to President Kenyatta, just like the late Michuki, who was obedient to retired President Mwai Kibaki,\u201d Munga said.<\/p>\n<p>But Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria said there was need to be cautious as the Building Bridges Initiative could propose the president to be elected by Parliament.\u201cThe public should be allowed to elect their President.
