Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President William Ruto now wants the Members of Parliament to abandon summons issued to Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, over his security’s downgrading.<\/p>\n

Through his social media pages on Tuesday, August 31, DP Ruto termed the summons as waste of time over a non-issue.<\/p>\n

Ruto argued that the Administration Police (AP) assigned to him is a professional unit and not a downgrade as earlier propagated.<\/p>\n

The second in command further challenged Parliament to focus its efforts in solving much serious security issues, including addressing banditry.<\/p>\n

“Parliamentary time should not be wasted on non-issues. The AP is a professional security service and those who think it’s a downgrade are wrong. Parliament should instead focus on deployment to serious situations in areas where bandits are causing mayhem and destruction,” Ruto stated.<\/p>\n

CS Matiang’i was summoned to appear before the parliamentary committee on Wednesday, September 1, following the change in Ruto’s security detail.<\/p>\n

The Security Committee Chairman, Peter Mwathi, said that Matiang’i was expected to explain the changes while accompanied by Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, and Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai.<\/p>\n

Mwathi stated that MPs will seek to establish the procedures used before instituting the changes to Ruto’s security team from the elite General Service Unit (GSU) to Administration Police (AP).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want them to shed light on whether the action they took is within the law, and if not, we will have no option but to ensure that the law is followed,\u201d noted Mwathi.<\/p>\n

However, Ruto embraced the new changes by hosting for a cup of tea on Monday, August 30, at his Karen residence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
